Narendra Modi has championed a number of reforms since he came to power as Prime Minister in May 2014. Some developments have expressed optimism for a faster improvement in perceptions about domestic governance and growth prospects for India’s economy, just as Mr Modi’s program had done before the slump in global demand from 2008-2010. Others have been less confident, noting the stalled implementation of many initiatives that were initially proposed after 2008, such as new labour laws designed to help small firms.

Shri Narendra Damodardas Modi also known as PM Modi is the current Prime Minister of India. In this response, I shall highlight some key moments from PM Modi's history as a politician and how he came to even becoming the Prime Minister of India.
Born in September 1869 to a low middle class family in Gujarat, Modi had held many government posts such as those of Chief Minister of Gujarat, the Leader of Opposition in the Gujurati Assembly, member for various parties and Member of the Lok Sabha for three terms. One one particular achievement that sets him apart from other politicians was his winning the general elections against Gandhi's daughter-in-law during 1996 while she was also contesting with him.

On the 16th of September, 2017, I was selected to serve as the Prime Minister of India. If someone had told me that my journey would span over eleven thousand kilometres and cover three states in search of quintessential India, I would have laughed and said "nonsense". Today when I look back at my time as Governor of Gujarat I see all 125 million Gujaratis in my imagination housed within this space. Nowadays we need to break out of our comfort zone and encounter people we do not see too often. These interactions will ultimately help us prepare for the new India that awaits us.
